Join AHRA for a Local Hike to Celebrate National Trails Day

SALIDA, Colo. – Please join Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area Naturalist Kate Hogins and Volunteer Naturalist Bob Hickey for a local hike to celebrate the American Hiking Society National Trails Day® on June 6, the country’s largest celebration of our trails. Locally, AHRA will host a hike on the Rainbow Trail West (#1136). This five-mile day hike features a climb through subalpine forest and lunch in a meadow atop a ridge on the west side of Poncha Pass. This hike offers stunning views of three majestic mountain ranges: the Sangre de Cristo, Sawatch and San Juan.

Hikers will meet at the trailhead on U.S. Route 285 south of Poncha Springs and north of Poncha Pass at 8:30 a.m. Registration is required for this hike. Those interested in attending should contact Hogins at 719-789-7289 ext. 4408 or at kate.hogins@state.co.us.
