SCFTA Hosts Monthly Creative Mixer this Thursday

Salida Council for the Arts will host its monthly Creative Mixer at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, in the Salida SteamPlant Paquette Gallery, 220 W. Sackett Ave.

The event offers an opportunity for local artists, writers, musicians, art lovers and community members to meet, exchange information and network on a casual basis.

Featured guest artist is Salida painter Dvora Kanegis, operator of Casa Tango Studio, whose paintings of the dance will be on display in the Paquette Gallery throughout August. Kanegis said she enjoys painting on Venetian plaster, applying thin layers of acrylic to produce unique luminescence and depth.

Featured musician will be classical cellist Jennifer Cox. The Salida resident has performed for many years with the Aspen Music Festival, spent 5 years with the Kwa Zulu-Natal Philharmonic in Durban, South Africa, and has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and principal cellist in orchestras in the U.S., Europe and Africa.

The Creative Mixer is free and open to the public. Free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.

Artists also can use the event’s “soapbox” to make announcements. For more information about Salida Council for the Arts, visit salidacouncilforthearts.org.
