February 25 Event Set to Remember Curtis Imrie

A gathering to remember Curtis Imrie is set for Saturday, Feb. 25, noon to 5 p.m., at The Lariat on Main Street in Buena Vista.

Imrie was a burro-racing champion who started competing in 1973 and continued into the summer 2016. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 70 while in Denver at the National Western Stock Show, where he was showing a prized donkey, and marking his 20th year of appearing there.

A frequent candidate for public office in the region, Imrie was most recently a write-in hopeful for the U.S. House seat in the 5th District, in addition to continuing his acting and independent filmmaking careers.

The Imrie family has had a residence in the 4Elk subdivision north of Buena Vista beginning in the ’60s.

The Lariat has generously donated its venue. Guests may purchase food and drink from The Lariat.
