‘Happy Camper’ Event Supports Family & Youth Initiatives
The 14th annual For Kids Sake fundraiser to support Family and Youth Initiatives (FYI) programs is set for Saturday, June 10, 6-9 p.m., at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.
This year’s event theme, “Happy Camper,” with beer sampling provided by Soulcraft, will feature a pop up camper donated by Holiday RV in Poncha Springs.
The camper, a 2005 Rockwood Rhino, features a slide-out, sleeps six, heater, microwave, fridge and stove, plus a built-in stereo. It is valued at $7,000.
Rustingram Catering will serve hors d’oeuvres. Music by Old Mose will round out the evening.
Advanced $25 tickets are available at Salida Heart of the Rockies and Buena Vista Chambers of Commerce, Book Haven, Soulcraft Brewing and any FYI staff member; $30 at door. Ticket arrangements may be made by calling 719-530-2584.
FYI is a division of the Chaffee County Department of Human Services, which oversees federal and state programs providing food stamps, Medicare/Medicaid, employment assistance, child support enforcement, adult protection and child welfare.
Locally designated programs include Chaffee Country Mentors, Nurturing Parenting, Youth at Crossroads, Communities that Care, and Community Partnership for Families, and are now grouped in a unified approach under FYI, said Kirsten Love, Mentors program coordinator.
“Although FYI may be housed under the Department of Human Services, that does not mean the county funds all of the programs,” Love added. “FYI is 85 percent grant funded, serving more than 430 youth and families in Chaffee County annually.”
Natalie Moore is manager for all FYI programs.
“For 14 years FYI has hosted a fundraiser and this year it is more important than ever for us to raise money to keep our programs alive and thriving,” Love said.
